In case you hadn’t heard, tomorrow is World Environment Day (WED). It’s an initiative of the United Nations with the purpose of bringing the effects of climate change on our planet to people’s awareness, and encouraging us all to be more eco-friendly.
But shouldn’t every day be WED? We’re from the school of thought that we’d rather flowers from a boy on any day other than Valentines Day, because he’s done it because he wants to, not just because it’s Valentine’s Day!
By all means pick up that piece of rubbish tomorrow, and finally get around to talking to your parents about installing environmentally friendly light globes, but don’t forget about your eco-conscience by Saturday morning.
Some super easy things you can do every day that really make a difference are:
- If you need a bottle of water, keep your eyes open for OneWater. This brand donates 100 % of it’s profits to the installation of clean water projects in developing countries. However, avoid buying too many bottles of water by re-using them and always carrying one with you.
- Put on a Bonds hoodie, trackies, socks and throw a comfy blanket over yourself while you’re watching telly instead of just flicking on the heater.
- Instead of using a new towel each time you shower, hang out in the sunshine during the day or dry it in on a clothes rack in front of the fireplace if you have one. You’ll be saving washing detergent, water, electricity AND time spent washing (read: more time for Gossip Girl re-runs).
- Turn off the light when you walk out of the room, it’s so easy but saves so much electricity!
