Totally trashed

The weekend's landed. You drink until you vomit, then have memory blanks. Just fun, right? No. It's an alarming trend, with one in 10 teens admitting they regularly binge drink.

Binge drinking — it's nothing new. You might have mates who do it, you may even do it. But regular binge drinking has hit a dangerous high which is why the Federal Government is stepping up. Through a hard-hitting ad campaign, Prime Minister Kevin Rudd plans to put an end to it. Banning teens drinking at parties, putting warning labels on alcohol and raising the legal drinking age are all suggestions being tossed around.

Teens speak

"Everyone dared me to scull at this party; I threw up for three hours. It was humiliating." Aliesha, 15

"My boyfriend gets drunk a lot. He gets sweaty and crazy, but assures me he’s fine. He’s capable of taking care of himself — I think." Maddie, 16

"Once I woke up in the playground to kids throwing stuff at me. I only had my boxer shorts on." Robbie, 17

"My friend and I streaked down the road, which was fun 'til guys chased us and yelled inappropriate things. We were so scared." Madison, 16

"After a massive party, I handcuffed myself to a police officer and my drunkenness was filmed and put on the net." Keira, 17

i think it is stupid what do you get out of it really you get a rush for a couple of hours and then you vomit everywere have a headache and not want to do anything plus there is the risk of getting horibly sick in many ways it is dumb yeah have 1 or 2 drinks but binge drinking is worthless
Its bad for you!!!! i will never drink (or smoke)
Putting up the price on "alcho-pops" has now turned everyone on to spirits. Alot of the people underage know what is and isn't too much to drink. This has now left an open territory with people drinking spirits which eave them no knowing how much they have drunk. This stupid crack down left my bestfriend gettin his stomach pumped due to buying straight. He was a sensible drinker but no longer can he even have 1 drink.
everybody knew that the taxing on those drinks would do nothing its just the government masking another problem and then moving onto another. this county is not going to do very good with the tactics they propose not saying that kevin Rudd isn't bad hes actually better than john Howard. People are not going to stop buying alcohol with the prices going up it is more likely that the crime rate of theft and stealing of money is gonna go up just so that person can buy their alcohol or smokes or drugs in my opinion the government needs to think through every little problem this can cause. Before finalizing something problems.
wateva the pm is tryin to do is not gona work. teens will continue to binge drink at a young age. i do n i kan get into clubs aswell. banning teens legally wil just make teens get into binge drinkin more.
kids will never stop binge drinking...sometimes its just to look cool or because everyelse is doing it or you wont to prove your old enough..... they keep upping the prices and we still buy it or the cheap stuff it still gets you drunk..
Yer so what people under 18 get drunk. Upping the alco-pop prices will do nothin to stop teens from drinkin. we have already swapped to straight spirits which are a lot cheaper and get u smashed a lot quicker. also teens will soon turn to drugs which will make everything wose. whats the point?? its not only teens who drink. think of the people that only drink every now and then. should they have to suffer??
I'm ashamed of my generation, binge drinking is eating away at your health and you're all too oblivious to notice. Karma WILL bite you all on the ***!
i think that as much as the Govt. try to prevent binge drinking its still going to happen. as a teen i dnt think that any one is willing to let someone smack em on the hand and tell em its bad. because the more you try to stop something e.g. binge drinking the more its going to happen. kids that underage drink now will still have their sources when they decide to put it up so really is there any point in raising it because we all know it will still happen.
Reading the first page of comments i discovered how ignorant some teens actually are. You are saying that your 13 and your an alco. Do you think that makes you a hero?? in my books that makes you a moron and probably someone who will when you're 15 will sleep with like 8 different guys in a week. Thats just not cool. Rudd raising the alchopop's i think is a stupid idea, mainly because that has forced alot of people to drink harder alcohol with a higher percentage. But everyone who thinks its cool to get smashed is totally wrong. Its not fun. At my friends 18th, that was a month after mine, i was going to share a bottle of sambucca with her and instead drank it to myself which in the end made me sick and i basically couldnt move. I was having alot of fun until i basically collapsed and not even i saw that coming. It is really bad for your health, but also your safety. Anything can happen if your not in the right state of mind. including sexual assault.
