SETTING: THE PRESENT DAY
I hate painting my nails. You have to take the old polish off, do the base coat, wait for that dry, do the first coat, wait for that to dry, do the second coat…and even if you don’t smudge it because you’re too impatient to wait for them to dry before you write back to that text, and even if you actually manage to do it neatly…give it three, four days max and (at least with me) they’ve chipped. Repeat process.
So when I heard about Bio-Sculpture nails – the gels that don’t chip for four to six weeks – I wondered if it might be this lazy chick’s chance to have polished nails minus all the work. An offer of a free trial from the Bio Sculpture peeps ( applied by the Bio Sculpture brand ambassador, make-up artist and model Sarah Todd no less) sealed the deal.
SETTING: DAY OF APPLICATION
Sarah shows up with a suitcase and proceeds to pull out all sorts of technical looking contraptions, including a UV light transmitter used to set the gel on your nails, making me slightly nervous. She assures me you can’t get cancer from the machine – apparently she gets asked this a lot!
My view
For the next hour I sit across from Sarah – boy, is she is one gorgeous gal. She was funny and good conversation to boot – girl crush much? We posed for a pic together but it won’t be posted here. Let’s just say one should never pose with children, or animals, or models.
The shades to choose from.
So Sarah produces a rainbow of colours and asks me to choose a shade. The hot orange almost wins but in the end I opt for a pink-ish red. Ooh la la!
The contraption.
So Sarah gets to work filing and preparing my nails like with a typical manicure, but then things get interesting. She coats my nails in gel from a pot, before applying the first coat of colour and asking me to pop my hand inside the UV light contraption.
I swap hands back and forth several times, drying one hand while the other is getting a second, and then I think even a third coat.
Eventually they’re dry, and I am left with the best looking nails I’ve ever had! I kindly thank Sarah and trot back to the DOLLY office to make the other DOLLY-ettes jealous as I prance around with my bright, shiny, PERFECT nails. I admit I deserved that lipgloss pelted at me from the direction of the beauty cupboard. I was being pretty obnoxious.
SETTING: LATER THAT NIGHT

Typing on my computer.

Wrapped around a cup of tea.

Dialling the numbers on my phone.

Peeling a carrot for a salad.
I also took a few pics of me posing with a lemon, but i think you get the idea: they look HOT.
SETTING: PRESENT DAY, FOUR WEEKS POST APPLICATION.
I’m happy to report that everything the peeps at Bio Sculpture said was true – they haven’t chipped! I am giddy at the thought of all the time I’ve saved not having to worry about my nails. And don’t worry, I’ve put it to good use: I’ve watched this teaser for the new season of Glee at least 36 times. Today.
My nails have grown quite a bit so I’m ready to have the Bio Sculpture gels soaked off or filled in. Can you guess which option I’ll choose? The soak-off for sure. HA HA HA, of course, I jest – I’m just about to email Sarah and see when she’s free for an appointment. Maybe the hot orange shade will get it’s time in the sun after all…
