We all know that first impressions count, right? So we caught up with HR expert Dean Sappey, of Frucor, to get his top tips for nailing your dream job interview (no bribing required!).
• Don't overcomplicate your résumé. Hiring managers want a snap shot of your school achievements or work experience so they can assess your readiness for the role they don't need an essay!
• Remember that hiring managers may be reviewing a stack of résumés. Find a way to make your resume stand out from the pack with a personal touch, while still keeping it professional.
• Spend time making sure the format is neat and the spelling and grammar is spot on. It can annoy hiring managers when résumés are sloppy.
• Look and act professional during your interview. Arrive at least five to 10 minutes early to avoid being late and flustered!
• Know your stuff. Be ready to provide examples of times you've displayed certain behaviours, overcome challenges or had a great 'win'.
• Do your homework. Get 'googling' and find out as much as you can about the organisation you are interviewing for. This will help you prepare questions for the interviewer (an absolute must!) and allow you to get a good sense of what the organisation is really like so you can ask yourself "is this the job for me?".
Follow Dean's tips and tricks to make a good and lasting impression. Good luck!
